On Friday 5th November, our Creative and Media class went to South Bank to help out with the Girl Fawkes festival. When we got there, we were given a brief outline of the line of events and what we will be expected to do throughout the evening. This visit was to familiarise us with a festival atmosphere and understand what it is like and the processes of it.
The first event that took place in the festival was fire dancers. This was just outside of the building where the main event was due to take place. This event was like the rope to entice people into coming to the actual event. It acted as a taster to attract guests to the main event. During the fire event, our media class gave out leaflets to the people watching which contained information on the festival on a whole and what they will find within it. After the fire event, we went to the main event and made sure that all the guests were seated and then offered out little sweets to go with the upcoming performance. There then was a range of performances from singing to storytelling which related to all different people in the audience.
We couldn't stay until the end as we needed to get back to school however I felt like I learnt a lot from it and it gave me an idea of what to expect from our own festival. Also, it taught me that having something to grab your audiences attention proves to be effective and is something that we should consider for our own festival. Overall, I enjoyed the festival as it was unique and entertaining.
